Mission
To empower, support, and increase the representation of Black males on school boards across the nation through the National Black Male School Board Association. We aim to provide resources, advocacy, and a platform that amplifies their voices in education. By fostering leadership development, community engagement, and advocacy, we strive to ensure equitable educational opportunities for all students, particularly those from marginalized communities. Our mission emphasizes creating pathways for success for every child, regardless of background.
Vision
A future where Black male leaders in education inspire and empower every student to achieve their fullest potential through equitable access to quality education and inclusive school environments. We envision a system where the representation of Black male educators and school board members enhances the educational experience and outcomes for all students, cultivating a diverse and supportive learning atmosphere that values every voice. By increasing the representation of Black males on school boards, we seek to ensure that diverse perspectives shape educational decision-making.
Strategic Direction
The strategic direction of the NBMSBA is guided by six key pillars aimed at advancing the interests of Black male school board members and the communities they serve, in alignment with the goals of the National Black Male School Board Association. Our focus will be on fostering growth, enhancing advocacy, promoting engagement, and ensuring the overall effectiveness of our organization, while placing a strong emphasis on equity, inclusion, and the unique experiences of Black male students.
Pillar I:
Financial Management and Sustainable Growth
Objective 1: Revenue Growth & Fiscal Stability
– Develop strategic partnerships and sponsorships to create sustainable funding sources that specifically support initiatives to increase the representation of Black males on school boards.
– Implement innovative fundraising strategies that prioritize programs addressing the educational needs of Black male students and the communities they represent.
Pillar II:
Advocacy for Equity and Inclusion
Objective 2: Elevated Impact
– Position NBMSBA as a leading advocate for the needs and perspectives of Black male educators and students within national decision-making bodies, ensuring their voices are heard in policy discussions.
– Engage in targeted policy advocacy that addresses critical issues affecting Black male students, including educational equity, discipline disparities, and access to advanced coursework, while advocating for practices that promote quality education for marginalized communities.

Strategic Communications & Thought Leadership
Objective 3: Credibility & Improved Image
– Establish NBMSBA as a central hub for resources, training, and information related to Black male leadership in education, serving as a go-to source for school boards and stakeholders seeking guidance on equity and inclusion.
– Promote evidence-based practices and policies that support the success of Black male students and educators through publications, workshops, and conferences that highlight their contributions and challenges, fostering community connections.
